What does End of Waste mean? It is a concept – introduced by a 2008 European directive and later adopted by Italian legislation – which aims to remove the waste status from an object or material once it has been recovered in authorized facilities.
It is, in essence, the closing of the loop in the separate collection supply chain: citizens separate and deliver materials, Veritas collects and sends them for recycling, and the facilities recover and transform the materials into so-called secondary raw materials, which re-enter the production cycle.
A series of regulations (specific to each type of scrap or material) determine the conditions that must be met to obtain the cessation of waste status, the techniques to be followed, and the recovery operations that must be implemented. The processor must meet very clear internal monitoring and control obligations, requiring certified management systems, personnel training plans, and precise supervision of activities.
This allows the achievement of high management and technical-professional standards.
